THE SOUP STORY

Slow Food Barbados believes that farmers and growers are the backbone of every community. We also believe that Chefs and Farmers can unite to create a more sustainable, food-secure island, while supporting our communities.

This COVID-19 crisis has heightened the fact that there are many on our island who do not have adequate access to wholesome food. From isolated seniors and disabled persons, to those who have lost their primary source of income. Many children relied on one school meal per day. While we now see a glimmer of hope, there is still a long road ahead for families whose income may not return, and children who are not yet back at school.

With guidance from The Red Cross, and through community partnership with the Parish Independence Committees, the Lions Club, Department of Emergency Management and the St Lucy District Emergency Organization, many vulnerable children and families in need have been discretely identified with the help of the primary schools and churches.

As a response, the Slow Soup Drive was born. We began by bringing together professional Chefs and talented Cooks to form an alliance. The Chef Alliance, along side volunteers, in a culinary all-hands-on-deck approach have been delivering warm, wholesome nutrition, ONE SLOW SOUP at a time.

100% of your donation supports the Chef Alliance Slow Soup Drive.

GIVE WHAT YOU CAN

Volunteer by assisting with food prep and/or cooking. You can also provide supplies, ingredients, containers, or your services.

The Chef Alliance, an internationally recognized  group of local volunteer chefs and cooks have been wholeheartedly giving their time and skill, creating nutritious, hearty soups utilizing local, donated produce in borrowed kitchens, while adhering to the strictest health and safety standards of COVID-19.

The soup kitchens have been churning out over 750 bowls per week since April.

The Chef Alliance Slow Soup Drive brings together players from across the Bajan culinary scene with a common vision to create lasting change through supporting small-scale farmers and fisher-folk to reduce out food import dependency.
