We hosted our annual Barbados Independent Film Festival CineCuisine 2020 – an evening of ACTIVISM! event at Copacabana Beach Club, in partnership with One Tree for Every Bajan, Copacabana Barbados and WIRRED.
CineCuisine paired tasty, locally sourced dishes from some of Barbados’ top chefs, followed by the hilarious, multi-award winning comedy WOMAN AT WAR. It was a fantastic evening with lots of laughter, interesting discussion and of course, delicious, locally sourced food!
The dishes of the evening were:
- Triple Tail Roulade
- Grapefruit Infused Ceviche
- Beet Falafel
Director/Screenwriter Benedikt Erlinggsson joined us for a Q&A after the screening and received the McNeel Impact Award for WOMAN AT WAR.
Under the theme of ACTIVISM, we invited the following organisations to join us for the evening and to showcase the projects and petitions they are working on in Barbados. There are so many ways that you can get involved in Barbados and do your part to BE THE CHANGE! We highly encourage you to check out the following organisations and lend your support by signing up, sharing, donating and volunteering:
- Dare to Care 246 – Beach Clean Ups
- ROAR – Respect Our Animal Regulations Barbados
- Caribbean Collaborative – Volunteer Platform & Volunteer opportunity newsletter
- CORRALL – Coral Reef Restoration Alliance Barbados
We also launched our first petition: Are you fogging kidding me? Let’s create a cleaner, chemically free Barbados together. Slow Food Barbados is calling on the Ministry of Health and Wellness and The Ministry of Environment and Natural Beautification to stop using harmful fogging practices in Barbados. We are calling for a ban on fogging immediately, before it is too late. There are a number of reasons why we should ban fogging in Barbados, as well as a number of sustainable alternatives, which we outline in the petition. Please sign, share and help us take this to the Minstry of Ministry of Health and Wellness and The Ministry of Environment and Natural Beautification.
Attendees were encouraged to tap in to the QR codes for each petition and organisation present, so that they could sign and share right there and then.
Thank you to everyone who supported this event, our partners and sponsors, and to the multiple volunteers who made it all possible. We look forward to Barbados Independent Film Festival 2021!
