Slow Food Barbados is a national conviva of Slow Food international.
What is the Convivia?
The convivia (or local chapters) spread the Slow Food philosophy far and wide and make it real. They all have decisional autonomy but they follow the political guidelines decided by Slow Food International. They coordinate Slow Food activities, support communities, organize events and are a fundamental reference point for members. Today more than 1300 convivia around the World form the backbone of Slow Food.

Slow Food Barbados is a community of like-minded individuals, farmers, chefs, restaurateurs, food producers, educators and foodies that have joined together to help build a stronger food system in Barbados.
This, in turn, enhances food security for our Island, supports communities, and cares for the environment in which we live.
Our overall philosophy is based on the belief of the fundamental right to the basic pleasures of quality local food and consequently the responsibility to protect the heritage of food, tradition and culture that make such pleasure possible.
Slow Food is good, clean and fair food. We believe that the food we eat should taste good; that it should be produced in a clean way that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health; and that food producers should receive fair compensation for their work.
- GOOD: a fresh and flavorsome seasonal diet that satisfies the senses and is part of our local culture;
- CLEAN: food production and consumption that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our health;
- FAIR: accessible prices for consumers and fair conditions and pay for small-scale producers.
Slow food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating.
We consider ourselves co-producers, not consumers, because by being informed about how our food is produced and actively supporting those who produce it, we become a part of and a partner in the production process.
Food is a common language and a universal right. Slow Food Barbados envisions a world in which all people can eat food that is good for them, fair for the people who grow it and clean for the planet.
Slow Food Barbados seeks to create dramatic and lasting change in our national food system in Barbados by facilitating the development of food sovereignty and food security initiatives on the island.
